In his role at the ISP, Alex focuses on developing high quality science instructional materials as well as professional learning experiences. In this work, he blends research and practice in order to support teachers as they implement evidenced based instructional strategies for teaching science. His research is focused on science teacher pedagogical content knowledge (PCK), high quality instructional materials, and professional learning for K-5 science teachers. Additionally, Alex teaches certification and graduate level courses in science education. 

Alex holds a B.S. in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Science Education from Indiana University. Before joining the ISP, Alex taught 5th grade science as well as elementary science methods courses at Indiana University. He also has experience working as an educator at the Saint Louis Science Center and the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center. Apart from his love for science education, Alex also has a passion for soccer, basketball, and running.
