challenge
Can you construct a scale model of the St. Louis Gateway Arch out of simple materials you have in or around your home?
Big Idea
The St. Louis Gateway Arch is one of the most well-known monuments in the world. A monument is a statue, building, or other structure built to commemorate a famous or notable person, place, or event. The Arch monument has many incredible features. From its incredible stainless steel legs, to its cool observation deck at the top. For this challenge, it is important for you to know that the arch is as tall as it is wide. Yes, the Arch is 630 feet tall and the two legs are 630 feet apart at the base.
Instructions
- Construct a free standing model of the St. Louis Gateway Arch. (please do not tape down to a surface, or lean against other objects, doors, or walls)
- Use household materials and tape to create a model of the Arch. Your Arch should be as wide as it is tall (just like the Gateway Arch!)
Challenge: Please do not wrap the structure in tape. We should be able to see the materials you chose to make your arch. - Try to make your Arch at least the height of the middle of your shin. We want to be able to see your incredible work of art!
